A genuine pair of late 19th-century Victorian cast brass tapersticks, styled in the classic early Georgian baluster design. These small candlesticks are exceptionably heavy for their size, with a combined weight of 320g, and feature a rich, dark gold tone with a natural, untouched aged patina. They stand at a height of 10cm with a length of 4.5cm across the precise, stepped octagonal bases.
The undersides reveal the traditional authentic manufacturing techniques of the era, showing a rough, pitted surface left over from the sand-casting process and clear peened joints where the stems were historically secured to the bases. Designed originally for writing desks to melt sealing wax, these functional antique pieces show crisp, symmetrical turnings typical of high-quality late Victorian foundry work.
This handsome pair of miniature candlesticks would suit a traditional study, a classic library desk setup, or a dark academia aesthetic.
