A mid-century Japanese black lacquer musical jewellery box, circa 1950s. The exterior features a high-gloss black finish adorned with hand-painted floral motifs and a flying songbird in gold accents, framed by iridescent mother-of-pearl (abalone) shell inlay.

The interior is lined in a vibrant red ribbed fabric with compartmentalised sections for ring and trinket storage, along with a mirror mounted on the inner lid. The underside is stamped "FOREIGN" alongside the original tune label and winding key.

Condition & Functionality

In good vintage condition. The high-gloss lacquer shows light cosmetic wear consistent with age and use, while the fabric interior remains clean. The musical mechanism plays "Swan Lake"; it stops promptly when the lid is closed, though it can be slightly intermittent and may require a couple of presses on the button to start.
