An authentic mid-century British confectionery piece, this small 4oz octagonal sweet tin was produced by Welch & Sons Ltd in Tynemouth, England. The lid features a beautifully detailed, vibrant lithograph illustration depicting three traditional characters in regional Dutch folk costume—complete with iconic lace bonnets, wide-legged trousers, and clogs. This charming European folk-art style was a highly popular design trend for British confectioners during the 1940s and 1950s. The sides are finished in a pale cream base coat with the classic red "Welch's Quality Sweets" logo alongside the original 4oz net weight details and factory location markings.

The piece has a great vintage look. The external lithograph artwork on the lid remains bright with excellent color retention and only minor surface scuffing around the edges. In keeping with its age and use as a functional kitchen item, the unpainted interior and the underside of the base show a heavy, authentic aged patina with widespread oxidation and surface rust, which underscores its genuine mid-century heritage.
