An authentic mid-19th century Victorian antique starburst rosette brooch pin, dating to circa 1850. The piece features a multi-tiered floral starburst head meticulously set with thin, faceted black glass marquise and teardrop-cut petals surrounding a central faceted glass stone.
Demonstrating classic mid-19th-century Vauxhall glass craftsmanship, each paper-thin glass petal sits over a silver/foil mirrored backing plate—a historic light-reflecting technique designed to bounce light back out through the glass facets. This silver-backed foil construction explicitly distinguishes authentic Vauxhall glass from solid, thick-cut French Jet.
The reverse features a period hand-soldered brass ring frame fitted with a long pin stem, hand-fitted tube hinge, and a simple C-clasp fastener typical of mid-19th-century construction.
Please note condition: The brooch is in overall good antique condition for its age. All black glass petals are present and securely set. In line with its age and delicate glass build, there is the odd hairline crack and minor edge chip to the glass stones. The reverse frame shows natural age tarnish, while the long pin stem and C-clasp operate smoothly and hold securely under fabric tension.
