An authentic mid-19th century Victorian antique floral drop pendant or ribbon slide, dating to circa 1850. The piece features a 3D multi-tiered starburst rosette set with 1mm paper-thin, faceted black glass marquise-cut petals, suspended beneath an articulated leaf stem.
Demonstrating historic mid-19th-century Vauxhall glass craftsmanship, each thin glass petal is set directly over a silver/foil mirrored backing plate mounted on a dark metal framework—a light-reflecting technique designed to bounce light back through the glass facets. This silver-backed foil construction explicitly distinguishes Vauxhall glass from solid, thick-cut French Jet.
As an authentic item of Victorian dark fashion and mourning etiquette, the top leaf section features a solid reinforcement bar with a hook-and-slide bar fitting, designed to slip securely over a velvet ribbon, neckband, or garment sash. It can also be used as a pendant on a necklace.
Please note condition: The piece is in good overall antique condition for its age. All black glass stones are present; in line with its age and delicate construction, one stone displays a minor chip and a couple of facet edges show light surface wear. The top attachment bar remains solid and structurally sound.
