An authentic mid-19th century antique starburst rosette brooch pin, dating to circa 1850. The brooch is crafted in a 3D multi-tiered flowerburst silhouette set with thin, faceted black glass marquise-cut petals.

Demonstrating classic mid-19th-century Vauxhall glass craftsmanship, each delicate glass petal is set directly over a silver/foil mirrored backing plate mounted on a brass framework—a historic light-reflecting technique designed to bounce light through the thin glass facets. This mirrored backing technique distinguishes Vauxhall glass from solid, thick-cut French Jet, which relies on solid black glass density rather than reflective foil.

As an authentic item of Victorian dark fashion and mourning etiquette, silver-backed Vauxhall glass was favored for its unique metallic sparkle under candlelight. The reverse reveals a brass setting framework fitted with an intact pin stem, tube hinge, and C-clasp mechanism.

Please note condition: The brooch is in good overall antique condition for its age, with all hardware functioning well and holding securely under fabric tension. In line with its age and delicate glass construction, there is half of one petal missing on the outer tier and a minor fine crack across another petal.
