An authentic Victorian antique starburst rosette pendant, dating to circa 1850. The piece features a multi-tiered flowerburst silhouette set with thin, faceted black glass marquise-cut petals.

Demonstrating classic mid-19th-century Vauxhall glass craftsmanship, each delicate glass petal sits directly over a silver/foil mirrored backing plate—a historic light-reflecting technique designed to bounce light back through the glass facets. This silver-backed foil construction explicitly distinguishes Vauxhall glass from solid, thick-cut French Jet.

As an authentic item of Victorian dark fashion and mourning etiquette, silver-backed Vauxhall glass was favored for its unique metallic sparkle under candlelight. The top edge retains a brass hanging loop ready to slip directly onto a chain, ribbon, or velvet cord.

Please note condition: The pendant is in overall good antique condition for its age. All black glass stones appear present and securely mounted. In line with its age and delicate construction, there is general wear across the glass facets, including one petal that has a small chip.
