An authentic mid-Victorian antique woven hairwork cabochon panel, dating to circa 1850. Crafted during the height of the Victorian mourning and sentimental jewellery movement, this piece features a high-domed oval glass lens enclosing an intricate, multi-tonal basketweave woven human hair insert, framed within a thin metal bezel rim. As an item of memento mori ("remember you must die"), it stands as a poignant historical keepsake of remembrance and love.

The reverse retains its original stiffened pasteboard backing plate. As a loose, unmounted mid-19th-century focal insert, this rare surviving panel is ideal for bench jewelers, antique jewellery restoration, custom bezel setting, or displaying in a cabinet of curiosities.

Good antique condition for its age. The domed glass front is smooth and intact, preserving the detailed woven hairwork beneath. The original backing plate remains firmly set within the thin metal bezel rim.
