An authentic late Victorian antique oval photo locket, dating to circa 1890. The locket features an engine-turned spiraling guilloché pattern on the reverse with a central oval monogram frame. Inside, the locket houses an original hand-tinted 19th-century photographic portrait of a gentleman in formal attire wearing a blue cravat, set beneath a glass bezel with an ornate rope-twist border.
As an item of memento mori ("remember you must die"), it stands as a poignant historical keepsake of remembrance and love.
The locket is crafted in rolled gold with an engine-turned backplate. Please note that the top chain loop / suspension ring is missing, though the mounting post remains intact, allowing for custom restoration or display in a cabinet of curiosities.
Good antique condition for its age. The engine-turned outer case displays crisp pattern definition with light age-related surface handling marks. The inner glass bezel and portrait are well preserved. The locket opens on a smooth side hinge and closes securely.
