This antique bead strand features 15 butterscotch amber Bakelite beads, including the main strand and the carved top bead, finished with a traditional cream thread tassel. Measuring approximately 25 cm laid flat, the set features barrel-shaped Bakelite beads each measuring 1.2 x 1 cm.
Circa 1920. The early 1920s saw peak production of amber-imitation Bakelite, with the deep butterscotch patina, early cord, and hand-finished beads. With 15 total beads, it is possibly of Greek origin as a traditional Komboloi, or designed as a portable pocket prayer and worry bead strand.
The strand comprises smooth, warm orange-butterscotch phenolic resin beads strung alongside a matching carved top bead and tassel detail.
The condition is very good, displaying a glossy finish to the Bakelite beads and minor authentic surface wear consistent with age.
This piece would suit collectors of vintage Bakelite, antique prayer worry beads, or tactile bead strands.
