These four antique horse brasses are a fantastic find for any collector, featuring the rare "Nancy" character from Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist. This set includes two brasses still mounted on their original, heavy-duty scalloped leather martingales, alongside a brewery-themed barrel brass and a traditional wheatsheaf.
The Nancy brass is particularly collectible, showing her in profile with a classic Victorian sunbonnet. The barrel brass, often associated with dray horses, features bold vertical stripes, while the wheatsheaf and crescent designs represent traditional agricultural symbols of luck and plenty. All four pieces are genuine sand-cast brass, evidenced by the casting marks (getts) on the reverse and the lovely, thick gauge of the metal.
Condition
The brasses are in wonderful antique condition, boasting a rich, deep patina that only comes with age. The leather hangers are remarkably well-preserved, showing authentic wear and a natural aged bloom that adds to their historic charm. They have a fantastic, honest feel to them.
