This antique German Gesteckpfeife features a traditional detachable white glazed porcelain elbow bowl and a long cherrywood stem with its natural bark finish intact. Popular across Alpine Europe in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, these long-stemmed hunter pipes were designed with a moisture trap base (Sackpfeife) below the bowl to condense tar and moisture, delivering a cooler smoke.
The multi-part construction includes original cork fittings connecting the porcelain reservoir to the wooden shank, topped with a carved horn mouthpiece. Rooted in Bavarian and Black Forest folk tradition, this style of pipe was often carried on outdoor hunts or used as a fireside companion, making it a wonderful piece of antique tobacciana and European social history.
