This antique brass watering can was produced by the prestigious Henry Loveridge & Co at the Merridale Works in Wolverhampton, dating to circa 1840. The base features the authentic "HL" monogram within the Registered Trade Mark circle, a hallmark of quality early Victorian and Arts and Crafts metalware. This 4-pint model features a sturdy fixed overhead handle, a rear D-handle for controlled pouring, and signature decorative horizontal banding around the body. The interior retains its original protective tin-wash lining.
The piece is in very good antique condition for an item that is around 150 years old. It has developed a characterful patina that only comes with age and remains structurally sound. There are a couple of small dents present, but nothing that takes away from its overall character or charm.
This piece would suit a traditional country house aesthetic, a rustic potting shed, or a collection of Victorian copper and brass. It would also suit those who appreciate the functional elegance of the Arts and Crafts movement.
