This antique late 19th-century nautical gimballed brass ship candlestick features a weighted counterweight mechanism designed to keep candles level at sea, alongside a wall-mounting loop for dual tabletop or bulkhead display. Cast in solid brass with detailed Neo-Grec gadrooning and acanthus scrollwork, it accommodates a standard 2.3cm taper candle.
The functional swinging gimbal pivots smoothly on its side mounts. The cast brass shows a characterful aged patina throughout with verdigris in the carved recesses, light surface tarnishing, and minor marks consistent with age and maritime use in very good antique condition.
Dimensions: Height 26.5cm, Base 14cm x 12cm, Socket Diameter 2.3cm Weight: 970g
This decorative piece would suit moody dark academia interiors, nautical studies, or Victorian brass displays.
