An authentic Victorian mourning arrow brooch pin, dating to the late 19th century (though Cupid's arrow motifs were also popularized earlier in sentimental jewellery). The brooch is designed in a stylized Cupid's arrow silhouette hand-set with faceted French Jet (deep black glass) beads.
In Victorian and earlier 18th-century sentimental iconography, the arrow symbolized Cupid's dart of love as well as direction and steadfast affection. The reverse reveals a iron setting framework fitted with an iron pin stem, hand-soldered tube hinge, and a simple C-clasp catch.
Good antique condition for its age. All black glass beads remain intact and securely mounted. The rear iron pin stem, hinge, and brass setting framework display a natural dark aged patina with some iron rust and oxidation in the recessed areas consistent with age.
