This antique copper pitcher is a classic example of Arts & Crafts metalwork, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. Born as a rebellion against the mass machine-production of the Industrial Revolution, the Arts & Crafts movement championed traditional craftsmanship, simple forms, and the celebration of natural materials. Instead of hiding how an object was put together, makers deliberately left construction details visible to showcase the artisan's hand.
This philosophy is perfectly captured here in the highly structural design, featuring prominent overlapping seams and visible rivets securing both the horizontal banding and the handle. The base shows traditional heavy lead solder construction. It retains a rich, deep patina with beautiful fire-flashed iridescence near the rim and natural verdigris tucked into the seams.
Please note that this is a historic, utilitarian piece and shows signs of its age, including noticeable dents on the main body. As the original internal lining is worn, it is no longer water-tight or food-safe and is suitable for decoration or dried flowers only.
