This circa 1930 vintage English cast brass sanctuary bell, also known as a Gospel or altar bell, features embossed Latin inscriptions around the waist reading AQVILA, AGNVS, PELICANVS, and LEO. Each inscription corresponds to detailed relief carvings depicting sacred Christian symbols: the Eagle of St John, the Lamb of God, the Pelican of the Eucharist, and the Lion of St Mark.
Constructed with a top ring handle, the bell is accented by Celtic knotwork roundels and foliate motifs. Inside, it retains its original clapper assembly and displays a stamped Made in England foundry mark. The solid brass exhibits a characterful aged surface patina with subtle tarnish consistent with age.
