This 1930s edition of "Everything Within" is a comprehensive domestic encyclopedia edited by A. C. Marshall. Published by George Newnes specifically for the News Chronicle, this 1208-page volume serves as an incredible social history document from the interwar period. It contains a wealth of era-specific information ranging from early radio maintenance and "thrifty" household management to traditional fortune-telling and social etiquette.
The book features various illustrations, including a frontispiece of a traditional thatched cottage, and contains extensive sections on gardening, profitable hobbies, and an atlas of the world. It offers a unique window into the daily life and aspirations of the British home between the two World Wars.
Condition Report:
The blue cloth boards show cosmetic wear consistent with age. The spine cover has become detached but is included and could be repurposed as a bookmark; however, the internal spine and binding remain solid and intact. The pages have expected age-toning but are clean and free from major inscriptions.
This piece would suit a collector of social history, a fan of interwar domesticity, or someone looking for authentic vintage shelf styling for a study or library.
