An authentic three-piece collection of vintage Soviet Khokhloma (Хохлома) wooden tableware, hand-painted in the USSR during the 1970s/1980s. This lot features a stemmed chalice, a footed cup, and a traditional serving spoon. Turned from solid wood, the goblet showcases a striking red-ground floral design, while the cup and spoon feature a glossy black background decorated with ripe strawberries and delicate foliage. The chalice still retains its original paper export label on the base, complete with the handwritten Soviet article number.
Khokhloma is a traditional Russian craft originating in the 17th century. It is famous for a unique lacquering process that creates a golden, metallic glow without using any actual gold. The turned wood is primed, dusted with aluminum powder, hand-painted, and baked in a high-temperature oven, turning the lacquer a rich amber color that transforms the silver powder into a brilliant gold hue.
The set is in very good vintage condition, retaining a high, glossy shine and vivid pigmentation throughout. There is a very small, minor chip to the rim of the large chalice, which is typical for turned wooden ware of this age and does not detract from its display value.
