This late 19th-century brooch is an example of early Arts & Crafts movement jewellery, dating to circa 1890s. Set in a hand-hammered, dimpled oval bezel, the central focal point features a fiery art glass cabochon designed to imitate a black opal. The stone displays a deep amber-orange base that flashes electric violet and cobalt blue iridescence as light moves across the surface.
The reverse features a hand-crimped metal bezel securing a copper baseplate, retaining its original late Victorian hardware with an extended pin stem, tube hinge, and simple C-clasp. A remarkable collectible for lovers of 19th-century Guild metalwork, early art glass, and Arts & Crafts design.
