During the post-war era and the 1950s, home-crafting soft toys reached a peak in popularity across Britain. With commercial toys often expensive or in short supply immediately after the war, women's weekly magazines and pattern companies regularly published templates for making animals from felt, velveteen, and fabric scraps. Felt was particularly favoured because it did not fray, making it perfect for the visible, decorative blanket stitching seen here. This piece heavily reflects the emerging mid-century kitsch aesthetic, influenced by contemporary commercial "Dream Pets" and stylized Japanese velvet animals of the era, which favoured oversized, cartoonish features and playful proportions over strict realism.

Dimensions: 14 x 9 x 7 cm Condition: Good vintage condition, with signs of cosmetic wear due to age and use, which do not take away from its mid-century charm, please see photos as they form part of the description.
