An exceptional vintage West African hand-carved wooden wall mask originating from Ghana. Carved from a single piece of dense indigenous hardwood, this statement wall sculpture demonstrates remarkable quality of craft with its intricate mixed-media details.
The striking central face is crowned with a fan-like headdress featuring seven smaller carved protective faces. Hand-stamped triangular brass metalwork is meticulously inlaid across the forehead and cheeks, complemented by vibrant multi-coloured glass seed beads carefully set around the eyes and along the bridge of the nose. The lower portion displays deep cross-hatch carved latticework, creating rich texture and visual contrast. The wood has been nourished with natural oil to protect the grain and enhance its deep, warm patina.
This authentic folk art piece is in good vintage condition, exhibiting light cosmetic wear and natural surface variation consistent with age and careful display, which only adds to its character.
